Keeping up to date with HR Absence Policies

In 2025, a new policy for Statutory Neonatal Pay and Leave will be introduced. It will allow parents who have a child who requires neonatal care for 7 days or more in the first 28 days following birth to receive up to 12 weeks of Statutory Neonatal Pay and Leave. Statutory Sick Pay is changing too and will soon be paid from day one as opposed to day four as it is now.

It’s hard to keep up with these changes, especially when certain stipulations apply to these policies. For example, an employee must have been in continuous employment for a certain number of weeks before the policy becomes applicable. Having software that tracks and automates your absence policies is great for reporting, saving time on manual calculations, and ensuring employees get paid the right amount at the right time.

Absence Policies with different Entitlement Levels, Pay, and Phases

New HR policies like this are constantly added to the HR team's to-do list, making it hard to keep track of them. StaffSavvy is here to help with robust and flexible Absence Policy settings. Each of our Absence Policies has different Entitlement Levels, Pay, and Phases.

  • Entitlement Levels - which means they get different pay depending on how long they have been with the company.

  • Pay - this may be unpaid, 50% or a normal day, pay a fixed amount and so on. It can be different for each Entitlement Level and each Phase.

  • Phases - Policies like Statutory Sick Pay(SSP) will have multiple phases. Phase 1 is waiting days, where they are unpaid for the first 3 days. Then, Phase 2 will be 28 weeks of SSP. However, this will change in April 2025 as well, and SSP will become available from day one.

There are even more settings available; for example, you can pay sick pay on expected work days for casual staff or on days staff had scheduled shifts. Read more about the StaffSavvy Absence Policies on the support site or watch the video below to see how it works in the software.
